Robert Filer Obituary

Robert “Jeff” Filer entered God’s nearer presence Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 at age 66.

He was born in Dayton, OH to Robert and Elsie Filer who both preceded him in death. He graduated from John H. Patterson High School. He was a kitchen designer for 48 years with KPC, Dayton Showcase, Supply One, and was a designer at Requarth Co. at the time of his passing.  He loved his career and enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know their stories.   He built close friendships with many of the customers and contractors he worked with throughout his career.   His co-workers were truly his work family.

He was an extraordinarily upbeat, energetic, and nice person.  He considered every day to be a good day and a gift no matter what transpired.  He never met a stranger and was a person who could always easily strike up a conversation and find a connection with everyone he met.

He loved all kinds of music, and especially enjoyed the oldies, of which he could name every band and every song. He really enjoyed going to concerts and musicals with his family. He was a foodie – he loved to shop for food, to cook a meal, especially grilling out and sharing it all with loved ones. Reruns of the original Star Trek and The Twilight Zone were his nightly must see TV.  His greatest joy in life was being a Dad and sharing his interests with his kids.

He and his spouse of 42 years, Janet Filer, met in the choir at Grace United Methodist Church in Dayton, OH.  Jeff continued singing in church choirs his entire adult life and was an active member of the choir at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Springfield, OH.  Additionally, he served on the Board of Trustees at Covenant for 6 years.  Jeff had a deep personal relationship with God and spending time in prayer was a normal part of his daily life. His life and attitude were a daily expression of his faith.  He lived by the Golden Rule.

He is survived by his wife Janet, son Trevor Filer and Alana Valvo, daughter Tracy Filer and Seth Davis. Also survived by his sister Jan Sweat and In-laws Melinda and Richard Stan, Gary and Karen Batey.   Additionally he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
