Lola M. Wilson-Whitt (1930-2020)
Born in Clarksville, Ohio, on October 3, Lola was the eleventh child born to Susan Wilson and the first born to Curtis Wilson. Lola was taught gardening for survival at an early age and she loved flower gardens too.
She began her education in the Mad River School District but dropped out of Kiser High School during her junior year to get a job to help her single mom with finances during the depression. Lola’s first job was operating a manual elevator at the Home Store (later Elder Beerman) in Dayton. She later worked in a paper factory operating heavy machinery to fold cardboard boxes.
In 1950, Lola married Bob Lee who unexpectedly passed away in 1964.
Four years later, Lola married Bill Whitt and they resided on a farm in Germantown where they did lots of gardening and caring for livestock. Lola’s dream came true when she was blessed with the birth of her grandson, Eric in 1974. During retirement years, Lola and Bill traveled fourteen years throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. More recent travels with her daughter took Lola to Alaska, Hawaii, England, Scotland and Wales.
In 2015, Lola was clinically diagnosed with dementia and lived in a long-term care facility for needed 24-hour care.
Lola is survived by her daughters; Linda Green and Betty Uhlman, two son-in-laws; Paul Uhlman and Frank Green, grandson Eric Schneider (April), three great grandchildren; Emma, Evan and Noah. Lola had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the world and made countless friendships as well.
Lola is remembered as a loving and compassionate mom, grandma, aunt, great grandma and a good-hearted, generous friend to all who met her. Family and friends cherish the memories made with Lola, and will keep her alive in our hearts and conversations.
