Frederick E. Funke, of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, February 26, 2022 at the age of 85. He was born in Fairfield, Ohio, which was renamed Fairborn in 1950. He was the youngest of three sons born to Fredricka (Pinnell) and Walter A. Funke. The Funkes are one of the oldest Fairborn families with roots dating back to the 1920s. His mother is best remembered for the hundreds of children she tutored in her pre-school in Fairborn from the 1940s into the 1960s.
Fred graduated from Fairborn High School in 1954 and served two years in the United States Army, during which time he and his high school sweetheart Alice (Wisemandle) were married upon her graduation from Fairborn High School in 1955. Over the years, Fred enjoyed a sales and marketing career, participating with firms such as Southwestern Portland Cement Company, Fairborn; Mid-Continent Properties, Piqua, Ohio; Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Clearwater, Florida; East Lake Woodlands Golf and Racquet Club, Oldsmar, Florida; Fairfield Communities, Tarpon Springs, Florida; Rotunda Realty Corporation, Cape Haze, Florida; and Fritz Enterprises, Birmingham, Alabama and East Chicago, Indiana.
He is preceded in death by his wife Alice (Wisemandle), his parents, brothers Walter and Richard, and grandson Sean Hurley. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frederick H. and Bridget (Brandewie) Funke of Fairborn; his daughter, Conni Funke of Fairborn; grandson Christopher Funke and his wife Shawni Trainer; sisters-in-law Georgia Funke of Farmington, New York and Wanda Funke of Gainsville, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred and Alice began their life together in high school and it evolved over more than 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2010. By God’s Grace, their separation has ended.
