Roger Kemp, age 77 of Kettering passed away Friday, May 29, 2020 peacefully after visiting with his children. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce and parents Gene Kemp and Dorothy (DeBord). Roger is survived by his family children: Louie & Sherry Kemp, Doug & Michelle Kemp, Cindy Kemp. Grandchildren: Darren Kemp, Amanda Kemp, Mary Renee and Cassidy McCullough.
Roger loved music and was a member of the NCR band at Old River during high school. He attended The Ohio State University where he marched with TBDBITL performing script Ohio. Years later he shed tears of joy as he watched his granddaughters perform in the Horseshoe and march the Kettering tradition of Script Birds.
Always involved in the community, Roger served as a volunteer firefighter for 25 years – Station #3. He was the president of the Pee Wee Dragons football / cheer organization and active with Kettering Holiday at Home. Roger, or “Frog” as he was called by his fellow lineman, retired in 1998 from DP&L after 35 years of service. He fulfilled his dream of buying a boat and christened it the Joyce Ellen. Roger and his family spent time together enjoying a good life.
He loved being a grandfather and attending baseball, field hockey, cheer and band events.
Roger has gone home to join his one true love, Joyce. May they watch over us together until we meet again.
Family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Friday June 5th, 2020 at Morris Sons Funeral Home 1771 E. Dorothy Ln. Funeral Services 10:30 am Saturday at the funeral home with burial in Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery , Pastor Amy Duiker officiating. Condolences may be made at morris-sons.com.
