Chauncey William Sharp 10/13/32-07/24/1950
Private First Class Chauncey William Sharp was born to the late Elsie Mae (née Gillespie) and James Robert Sharp on October 13, 1932 in what is now known as Fairborn, Ohio. Chauncey was one of ten children. He is survived by two sisters, Betty Foust of Fairborn Ohio and Sue Cartwright of Springfield Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Chauncey was killed in action on July 24th 1950 in Taegu South Korea. His remains were unrecoverable at the time of his death and were not positively identifiable until recently using DNA technology. Chauncey’s military decorations include: Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea/Korean War Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. The US Army has worked diligently with Chauncey’s family to make it possible to finally bring him home and his family is so very grateful. Chauncey’s Repatriation Memorial Service will be held at 10 am 21 May 2022 at The Church at Eastmont, 1380 Spaulding Rd Dayton, OH 45432 with procession and Funeral Service to immediately follow at The Dayton National Cemetery on the grounds of the Dayton VA at 1 pm.
