Nadine Nagle Obituary

Nadine V. Nagle, age 99 of Kettering, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. She was born October 25, 1918 in Chapman, Kansas to the late Albert A. and Charlotte (Hassler) Engler.

In 1942, Nadine married her first husband, Dale Canfield, who was honorably serving during WWII. Nadine suffered a tragic loss in January, 1943, when Dale was killed in action. She carried on her late husband's mission by enrolling, training and serving under the Women's Airforce Service Pilots [WASP] program. Her courage and determination defined her. Sharing her experiences and the "WASP" story became a passion for the rest of her life.

After the war she served in the Red Cross where she met and married her late husband Frank A. Nagle. After several Air Force assignments, they settled in Dayton, OH, in 1959. They were married 54 years.

Throughout Nadine's life, she lived her personal priorities to serve 'God, Family and Country.' She was a devout member of Community United Methodist Church and was a shining example of Christ's love and grace. Being a wife and mother brought her deep joy. Additionally, Nadine worked as a kindergarten teacher at Community UMC and Beverly Gardens Elementary School. She was active in many clubs and organizations and always enjoyed the company of her friends, whether playing Bridge, gardening or volunteering in aviation related activities.

Nadine will be deeply missed by her loving children, John (Bonnie) Nagle, Paul (Kathy) Nagle, Ann (David) Chaffee and Steve (Suzann) Nagle; grandchildren, Jen (Chris), Kim (Jon), Karen, Bobby (Lindy), Lauren (Chris), Katie, Jillian (Quin), Nate, Kyle (Megan) and Ally (Russ); great grandchildren, Katy, Riley, Carol, Jayden, Kelly Grace, Sloan and Shelby Jo; many beloved extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, Nadine was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Friday, September 21, 2018 at MORRIS SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1771 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering. A memorial service will begin at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 339 Meyer Ave., Dayton, OH 45431 with Pastor Fritz Merkes officiating and a reception to follow. A private graveside service will be observed by the family at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton at a later time.
