Mark Farrelly Obituary

FARRELLY, Mark C., age 46, of Oakwood, passed away unexpectedly on July 12. He was born in Kettering on June 30, 1971, and attended Orchard Park Elementary School, St. Albert the Great Parish School, and Alter High School there. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Dayton in 1993 with majors in English and theatre. He also received a Master of Arts degree in theatre from The Ohio State University in 1995 and was a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) at the University of Washington from 1995-2003, where he worked in varying capacities as an instructor in the School of Drama, an associate in the Human Interface Technology Lab, and Web producer and marketing coordinator for the Catalyst Initiative Program. In 2004, he joined the Microsoft Corporation, first as an operations account specialist with Spherion and then as a curriculum coordinator with Kelly Services and finally from 2006-2011 as a MACH global program manager for curriculum designing and developing MACH employee training events in 12 international locations. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara, who considered her proudest achievement being Mom to Mark and Ann, and is survived by his father James, his sister Ann of Platteville, WI, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Mark was both a dreamer and an achiever in his all too brief life. He wore many hats along the way as avid fan of science fiction and fantasy from Superman to Captain Kirk to Luke Skywalker at an early age to Dune, Lord of the Rings, and Guardians of the Galaxy in later years, as an actor at Alter, UD, and OSU, as a rooter for the Bengals, the Alter Knights, the UD Flyers, and The Seattle Seahawks, as an IT, AI, and Virtual Reality enthusiast, as a writer, a Web designer, guitarist and band member, as a proud pet owner, and as a promoter of the Wright Brothers legacy and Dayton's vital role in the history of aviation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at UD's Immaculate Conception Chapel on Saturday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Barbara A. Farrelly Scholarship fund at UD. Forms will be available at the memorial. Morris Sons Funeral Home in Kettering. Condolences may be sent to www.morris-sons.com.
