Janet B. Downing

Janet B. Downing, age 98, died peacefully on July 19, 2018 at White Pine Senior Living in Inver Grove Heights, MN. Janet was born on Aug. 17, 1919 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of Clii€ord and Clara (Koenig) Brown. As a teenager she met the love of her life, Charles E. (Chuck) Downing, Sr., at St. Paul UM Church and later married him on March 5, 1942; married 75 years, together nearly 83 years! She and Chuck had retired in FL before moving to MN. Janet graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stivers H.S. During Chuck's tour of duty in the South Paciic in WWII she worked in the accounting departments at Wright Patterson AFB and Delco and later as the comptroller at Wonder Bread. As a dedicated, kind, and loving wife and mother she poured all her energy into caring for her family, leading Scout troops, holding PTA oiƒces, helping with homework, transporting her children to dance, swim, and music lessons, and planning fun and
educational family vacations. She loved reading (especially Danielle Steel novels), and watching sports (especially golf, the Cincinnati Reds, college basketball... and the Ohio State Buckeyes!) Her grandchildren loved her dearly and teased her about carrying a "hankie," her "jella," and the burned dinner rolls at family gatherings. "Oh, my stars!" and just remember that "Everything's behind the "bunneh"!" She was deeply loved and
will forever be in the hearts of those she touched. Survivors include her daughters Susan (Larry) Jordan of Cannon Falls, MN and Jeanne (Stephen) White of Sherwood, WI; daughter-in-law Sherry Downing of New Port Richey, FL; nephew Bill Downing of Albuquerque, NM; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clii€ (Junior); her beloved son, Charlie (Butch); and her adoring husband, Chuck. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wed. July 25th at Morris Sons Funeral Home, 1771 E. Dorothy Lane, Kettering, OH. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.
