Melvin "Mel" Waymire Obituary

Waymire, Melvin “Mel” Sylvester, age 96 of Enon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at his home.  He is preceded in death by his parents: John Harvey & Mary Catherine (Thompson) Waymire, his beloved wife Velma (Adams) Waymire and a son Mark S. Waymire.  He is survived by three daughters: Kathryn Whaler, Laura Ogilby, Cheryl Waymire; and one son: Melvin S. Waymire, Jr.  Mel is also survived by a sister Janet Johnson, brother-in-law Ronald Adams seven grandchildren: Heather Spillman, Justin Ogilby, Brandon Ogilby, Sarah Felix, David Ogilby, Andrea Norman, and Drew Waymire.  10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He was very proud of being a pilot in the Army Air Corp, a Lt. Colonel in the Reserves and mostly to have been part of the “Flying Tigers” in WWII.  The first American Volunteer Group – Nicknamed the “Flying Tigers” included pilots from the U.S. Army Air Corp (USAAC), were recruited under Pres. Franklin Roosevelt prior to Pearl Harbor to fight the Japanese in Burma and China.  A unit so famous that John Wayne made a movie about them during the war. He was a member of Crosswalk Worship Center, and loved to golf in his spare time.  Mel will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held, 1:00 p.m.  Friday, November1, 2019 at MORRIS SONS FUNERAL HOME, 104 W. Main St., Fairborn with Pastor Mark Decker officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial to follow with Military Honors at Enon Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to www.morris-sons.com.
