Mary Kathryn (Varner) Stephens

Mary Kathryn (Varner) Stephens, age 97, of Yellow Springs, Ohio, passed away on December 31, 2018. She was the daughter of Don and Addie Conrad Varner. Her early years were spent on a farm at Layman, Washington County, Ohio, where she was born. She lived in Enon from 1957 until 2012 before moving to Yellow Springs.

Kathryn’s husband, Forest Lynch Stephens, passed away in 2001. They were married in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1943. She is survived by her two sons Gregory L. Stephens (Joyce) of Friendswood, Texas, and James A. Stephens (Roberta) of Hartselle, Alabama, Jim and Roberta’s two children Jesse Dustin Stephens (Dana) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and their son Luke, and Kelsey Marguerite Stephens Schreuders (Alex)  of Nashville, Tennessee,  and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathryn was preceded in death by sisters Bernice Knisely (Orson), Freda Jones (Frank), and Donna Stackhouse (Ray), by brothers Benson Varner (Mary Lou) and Guy Varner (Ruth), and by daughter Natalie Ann.  

Kathryn was a member of the Enon United Methodist Church, Elderly United of Springfield, Fairborn Senior Center, National Association of Federal Employees, National Audubon Society, and a secretary of the Enon Community Betterment Group, an organization instrumental in the formation of the Enon Public Library. She was employed by Wright-Patterson AFB, the Veterans Administration, the Ohio State University, and was school secretary at Indian Valley Middle School for six years.

Kathryn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.

Funeral Service 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Morris Sons Funeral Home, 104 W. Main Street, Fairborn, Ohio with Dr. Harold Cottom officiating. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Fairfield Cemetery.
