Greta Behr 1931-2019
Greta Behr passed away June 12, 2019 in her home at The Suites of Walnut Creek from complications of dementia. She will be dearly missed by son, Gary Behr and daughter, Gail Follansbee and son-in-law Larry Follansbee. She is also survived by sister Phyllis Brush, sister-in-law Earlene Morton, brother-in-law Marion Eley and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Alta Harrell, brother Orville Harrell, Jr. and sister Shirley Eley. Greta is now reunited with her husband of nearly 50 years and the love of her life, Earl Behr, who passed away in 1997.
In her youth, Greta was a Rainbow Girl. She attended Roosevelt High School and worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital She later worked at Ontario department store. She loved music, especially Johnny Cash and religious music. She always had a song in her heart and enjoyed singing until the end.
Greta was an active member of The Church of the Cross United Methodist for over 60 years. She arranged the funeral dinners for the church for many of those years and was active in a number of church activities including a Circle Group, preparing and serving meals for The St. Vincent de Paul Gateway Shelter and making buckeyes for the annual church bazaar. She made many lifelong friends at church.
Greta was a kind and caring person who always was there to help a friend, a relative or even a stranger in need. She was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW Post 9927. She loved a parade, especially when she was in it. She enjoyed traveling with family, friends and the Young at Heart senior group at the Washington Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing in 2 card clubs for many years. Greta was a skilled homemaker and a talented cook. Her pies were truly extraordinary. She brightened any room and any heart with her smile and laughter.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Morris Sons Funeral Home at 1771 E. Dorothy Lane, Kettering, OH. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Miami Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions, if you are so inclined to remember Greta in this way, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
