Gary Behr Obituary

Gary Lee Behr passed away July 1, 2019.  Gary was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1950 and grew up and resided in Kettering, Ohio.  He graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1968.  He also attended Wright State University.  Gary enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and honorably served his country.  He worked for a division of GM and retired young.

Gary loved to fish and hunt, listen to music, watch movies, work crossword puzzles and cook.  He was a big fan of football, especially the OSU Buckeyes.   He enjoyed traveling and took several cruises including two to Alaska where he went salmon fishing, whale watching and enjoyed many other exciting excursions.

Gary loved his family and nothing gave him more pleasure than planning, and attending, the Behr Family Picnic every September.  He is preceded in death by his father, Earl Behr and his mother, Greta Behr.  He is survived by his sister, Gail Follansbee and her husband, Larry, of Lakewood, Colorado.

Gary was a trusted and loyal friend and was known for his soft heart, kindness and generous nature.  He was an active member of the Kettering VFW Post 9927 and a trustee for many years.  He volunteered at many VFW functions and activities including visits to the VA Hospital to provide comfort to fellow veterans.  Gary participated in the 2016 Honor Flight for America’s Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends.

Funeral service with military honors will be held at the Dayton National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
